VOLUNTEERS
Hundreds of volunteers work throughout Kingwood doing such critical tasks as gardening, flower arranging, greeting visitors, answering telephone calls, taking reservations, leading tours, promoting memberships, making plant labels, helping with special events, working in the library, and more.
Volunteers are instrumental in keeping Kingwood Center operating. They are treated each year to a Spring Tea where they are welcomed back to the summer's activities and updated on programs, changes and happenings at Kingwood Center. A covered dish picnic is held during the summer for volunteers to get better acquainted and share their Kingwood experiences. At the end of the season, volunteers are recognized for their hard work during the year, and are rewarded with an array of delectable goodies made by the Kingwood staff, and a gift of a plant grown in the Kingwood greenhouse.
Training sessions are held periodically to keep volunteers up to date on how to do their various jobs (flower arranging, hostessing, tour guides, etc.). Volunteers do not pay for parking at Kingwood Center. There are jobs available for anyone, even those who have limitations in mobility, time or gardening expertise.
Volunteers work closely with a staff member who leads the effort, assigns duties and provides guidance and expertise. Most jobs are typically done on a weekly schedule.
To become a volunteer request an application from our volunteer coordinator, Lisa Duckworth, at lduckworth@kingwoodcenter.org. An application will be sent through the regular mail and when returned, you will be contacted to be assigned to a job.
